There are just some people that I love so much that I don’t clean my house when they come over.

Now before you start thinking I’m some kind of slob, let me explain myself.

I think deep down we all have some sort of perfectionist trying to get out, and we want people to think we have it all together perfectly so that maybe they’ll like us a little more or have a little better opinion of us.  So when we invite people into our homes, we make sure everything is dusted and the toys are put away and all the dishes are stacked neatly and the dog and all her gloriously ruined toys are stashed out of sight.  And I, like most people, do my best to make our home inviting and comfortable when people come over.

But you know what? I get kinda busy and sometimes there’s just not enough time to get everything put together perfectly.  And I’m ok with that.  Totally ok, actually. Because I’m so blessed to have friends who are our friends because they really know us and love us anyway.  And they don’t think better or worse of me because my  gallery wall is still in progress after three years.  And they still want to be our friends even though there are more toys on the ground than on the shelves.  And everyone just knows it’s simply safer to just stay away from my closet of shame (don’t pretend like you don’t have one too). And our dinners aren’t cut short because we eat our takeout pizza on paper plates while little people with little feet run around and around, dropping pepperoni as they go.

you know what I’m saying?  The kind of friends that you don’t have to clean your house for.

For us, it’s them.
