matt and gretchen | the perfect winter wedding

April 4, 2013

When Gretchen and I were first talking about her end-of-winter-wedding, I told her that it would be amazing if it could snow the day before, MODOT could clear the roads, the sky could clear, and then it would be sunny with no wind and snow on the ground for her wedding day.  We laughed.  Weather in St. Louis never happens like that.

But in Matt and Gretchen’s case, it did.

It was completely beautiful and bright and pristine, and exactly  just as we had hoped it would be.  The perfect winter wedding, if you ask me.

And I think that this post is the perfect send-off for winter.  Did you hear that, Old Man Winter?  We’re done now, thanks.  I’m putting my boots and gloves and coats away where they plan to stay until December.  My flip flops are out and I intend on wearing them.  Every day.  So thanks for for the perfect day… but so long.

Alright, enough of my winter weather sentiments…  I feel so completely blessed that I was able to photograph Matt and Gretchen‘s wedding, and even more blessed to hear their story.  My husband and I used to work in the youth group where Matt and Gretchen attended church -one fall I was even Gretchen’s counselor at camp!- and I think I can speak for the both of us when I say that it’s been beautiful and so encouraging to see them grow into such wonderful people. And I’m so excited to watch their story continue.

We’ve all heard it said before, “when you know, you know.” For Matt, that was especially true.  He knew many years ago that Gretchen would one day be his wife.  So much so, he wrote her a letter during the beginning of college that was intended for her to read on their wedding day.  He tucked it away for her, and many years later, on their wedding day, Gretchen got to read a letter that she could barely even describe without emotion spilling over.  One of the sweetest things  I’ve seen.

A beautiful winter’s day with a beautiful couple. My heart is full and oh so happy looking back through these photos and see little Matt and Gretchen from middle school all grown up. God’s most abundant blessings to you both!

I wonder if there is any way I could find out where the bridesmaid’s jackets were bought?
